National Statistics
- "1
in 7 adult women in America - or 15.1 million women - have been forcibly
raped at least once in their lifetime." 1
- Forcibly
raped is defined as: "an event that occurred without the girl
or woman's consent that involved the use of force or threat
of force, and that involved sexual penetration of the victim's
vagina, mouth, or rectum." 2
- It
is also important to note that "nearly one-half stated that
they had been raped on two or more occasions." 3
- Of those
who had been raped, 60% of the women had been raped in childhood.
|
- An estimated
1.8 million 12 to 17 year olds have been sexually assaulted.4
- 1 in 7 boys will be raped by age 18.5
Wyoming
Statistics - Rape in Wyoming: A Report to the State
- 19.9%,
or 1 in 5, of women has been raped at some time in their lifetime.
- Or "of
the nearly 183,000 adult women living in Wyoming, over 36,000 have been
raped at least once during their lives." 6
- Although
these numbers are frightening, they are conservative:
- Only includes
adult women, does not include our female children and adolescents.
- Includes
forcible rape only (see definition above); drug-facilitated sexual
assault, unconsciousness and incapacitated reasons are not included.
- Does not
include statutory rapes (non-forcible rape with an under aged child.)
- Does not
include attempted rapes.
- Does not
include rapes of men and boys.
