COMMUNITIES/COSMETOLOGISTS:
Helping Victims Find Safety
The
first priority is to link the victim with a domestic violence program it
at all possible. If you have access to written material such as brochures
or cards, offer them to the victim, but be cautious that the victim has
a safe place for them where the abuser will not find them. Some victims
do not have any privacy for personal items, and their abusers monitor everything.
Talk about safety if you have the opportunity, and discuss ways the victim
can be personally safe and keep her children safe. You can suggest that
the victim of domestic violence develop a personalized safety plan and thus
increase safety. Advocates at domestic violence programs are available to
assist. Provide her with information on safety planning found on this website. |
