Program that screens new mothers in the hospital to determine the likelihood for abuse and neglect. Eighty percent of the parents identified accept a home-based parent-training program. Specialists visit the family about one hour per week for three years. The state's child abuse cases are down 90 percent from what could have been expected, based on past experience.
